Why “Not-For-Profit” Matters
Here in the northwest corner of Alabama, Hospice of the Shoals finds itself operating in an area populated almost entirely by competing hospice organizations that are, in fact, privately-owned, for-profit companies and corporations. We are very proud to be able to say that we are a community-oriented, NOT-FOR-PROFIT hospice.
That means something to us…and it means something to the people for whom we care. It means that we are not here for the benefit of an owner or a group of stockholders. We exist solely to provide loving, compassionate, highly skilled end-of-life care for patients with a life-ending illness as well as practical, emotional, and spiritual support for their families.
Any excess funds we receive in payment from Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance stay in our organization providing us with the means to better care for the patients and families we serve. We are a 501(c) (3), United Way organization overseen by an all-volunteer board of directors made up of local healthcare professionals and community-minded citizens.
